Towanda James

I have been in the field of education for seven years. My first two years were spent at North Clayton High School near the Atlanta International Airport. My third year of teaching was spent at Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, GA. I am still there now. I am in the mathematics department there and am the gifted liaison.

I finished my undergraduate degree at Clark Atlanta University in Mathematics Education. However, music brought me to Atlanta. The Director of the Philharmonic Society from Clark recruited me to sing in the choir. The music scholarship was very helpful. The Philharmonic Society led me to meet my husband. We have been married for ten years now . Our son Ian is 10 and our daughter Trine' is 4. They are wonderful children.

My family and I are all very active in our church. We sing in the choir. My husband and I are on the praise team. I even play the piano a little, for my enjoyment.

Now I am pursuing a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education at UGA. This is my second semester and I am so excited I made it through the first. I'm taking an on-line course for the first time entitled Characteristics of Gifted Children. The other courses I am taking are Statistics for Teachers and of course EMAT 6680.
