Lesson 2

Goals

1. Students can add any given two vectors by using properties of a parallelogram and understand the meaning vector tool includes while they use it in an easier way to find a sum of two vectors.
2. Students can subtract any given two vectors by using properties of
a parallelogram and understand the meaning vector tool includes while they use it in an easier way to find a sum of two vectors.
3. Students can find a real multiple of a vector.

Prerequisite:
1. Students know properties for parallelograms with transformation sense.
2. Students understand operation laws ( commutative, associative, and distributive laws with the concepts of identity, and inverse )

Target graders: 11th or 12th graders

Teaching procedure:

Step 1: Teachers can start with providing real situations pertinent to vector concepts.

   Post the situation to students.

Step 2:  By using prallelogram,  teachers show how to find the resultant vector from adding vectors.
And ask open the vector tool file to add vectors.
             GSP

Step 3: In the same way, teachers can introduce vector subtraction and then summarize ideas of addition and subtraction with operation laws.
            GSP

Step 4:
Scalar multiplication GSP

Students Activity:

Technology connection:
1. Teachers and students use the GSP to do basic operation with vectors.
