Analysis of Data

Here let us use spreadsheet to analyze data (project and data base suggested by Carmen Batanero Universidad de Granada). The data base was the result of a survey in a sixty-student classroom. In this project we will have the opportunity to analyze qualitative and quantitative variables. The variables in the data base are:

gender (male=1, female=2)

sport (if the student practice any sport: no=1, a little=2, a lot=3)

weight (in pounds)

height (in cm)

length (length of extended arms in cm)

size (size of shoes)

dollars (how much money did the student have in the survey moment)

Use the data base and a spreadsheet to make the analysis of the data and answer the following questions.

How is distributed the sex in that class?

How could you describe the typical student in that particular classroom?

What is the size of shoes the typical student use?

Does the typical student practice any sport?

What is the typical student weight, height and length.

Describe what are the main differences between girls and boys in that particular classroom.

What proportion of students do practice a sport?

How much money does the typical student use to have in his/her pocket.

Now is time for you to design your investigation and collect your own data.

You could be interested in some school-related questions or you could be interested in the familiar composition of your classmates' families.

Some suggestions of variables you could include in your project are:

number of brothers

number of pets in the family

did you already buy the ticket for the school match?

are you in favor of the new library policy?

how many books do you borrow from the library each week?

Summarize the results of your survey for each question. Draw any conclusions you think are reasonable. Explain your conclusions.
