A Geometric solution:

 

If you have the angle bisector of any triangle, the < bisector will cut off segments on the opposite sides which are proportional to the other sides.  (See problem here: http://jwilson.coe.uga.edu/EMT725/Bisect/bisect.html).

 

*Can you find an expression for the length of an angle bisector of a triangle given the lengths of the sides of the bisected angle?
