Kimberly N. Bennekin

Construct a triangle and its medians. Construct a second triangle with the three sides having the lengths of the three medians from your first triangle. Find some relationship between the two triangles.

1. Construct a triangle and its medians.

2. Construct a second triangle with the medians of the first triangle.

RESULTS

The following are the lengths of the sides of the two triangles:

It is obvious that the two triangles are not congruent since the lengths of their sides are not equal.
Let's consider the ratio of the lengths of each side:

The ratios of the two largest sides and the two smallest sides are extremely close.
Next follows the length of their angles:

The two triangles are also not similar since their angles have different measures.
The following lists the area and perimeter of the two triangles.

The ratio of the perimeters of the triangles is: .
The ratio of the areas of the triangles is: .
