Leonardo Pisano was a famous mathematician
who wrote under the name of Fibonacci.

In 1170, he was born in the town of
Pisa, Italy.

He was educated in North Africa and
studied mathematics in Bugia (now called Bejaia, which is in Algeria).

He spent a major part of his life traveling
with his father, and from this traveling, he saw the advantages of the
different mathematical systems used in each country.

He wrote the book Liber Abaci, which
means "Book of Calculating," and it introduced the Arabic numerals
and the Hindu-Arabic place-valued decimal system to the Western culture.

The first known recording of Fibonacci's
Sequence is in this book, and is shown through the famous rabbit problem.

formed by adding the previous two numbers.
