Me and UGA6 on a Football Saturday
I'm still Kevin and I'm back in the working world!!!! Yes, Dr. Wilson and the University of Georgia were kind enough to grant me a diploma in Mathematics Education in December, 2001. Since then, I've moved back to Atlanta and have been teaching high school mathematics at The Westminster Schools. I also assist in coaching both the 2002-2003 Boys AND Girls Georgia High School State 1A - 4A Swimming and Diving Champions! Click on my website at Westminster. You can see I'm starting to put some of my EMAT 6680 skills to some good use!
While I was attending UGA, I served as Graduate Resident of McWhorter Hall, a residence hall conveniently located around the corner from the School of Education, (a.k.a. Aderhold Hall), my "home" away from home.
Prior to coming to UGA, I spent five years in Marietta, Georgia, where I taught transition math, algebra, and geometry in the middle school at The Walker School. I also began and coached Walker's first men's and women's high school swim team as well as beginning the middle school program.
From a continuing education standpoint, I have attended quite a few GISA (Georgia Independent Schools Association) and SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) seminars around the state. Also, I have attended the UCSMP (University of Chicago Series Project) Conference as well as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Conference. All of these opportunities have been informative and useful in some way to my growth as a teacher.
One thing I started collecting, since becoming a teacher, is cartoons. There are so many cartoons related school and mathematics that I started pinning them on my classroom bulletin board. Kids began clipping them out of the newspaper and adding them to the bulletin board for fun. By the end of my fifth year, I had quite a few. Take a look at my cartoon collection and see if there are any you recognize!
