Area of a triangle = 1/2 base x height
= 1/2 (BC x ED) If we bisect ED at F then we know EF = 1/2 ED
So if we construct a rectangle with length BC and width EF then Area of the rectangle = BC x EF = BC x 1/2 ED = area of the triangle.
