Student Activity Day 1

I. Draw and label triangle ABC using the given conditions. Then, if possible, classify each triangle by its angles and by its sides.

A) angle A < 90º , AB is the hypotenuse

B) AB = BC , angle L = 90º

C) angle A > 90º , AB < BC

D) AB < BC < AC

E) AB = BC = AC

F) angle A is obtuse , triangle ABC is isosceles

II. Determine whether each statement is true or false. If it is false, draw a counterexample.

A) All equilateral triangles are isosceles.

B) A scalene triangle can be obtuse.

C) A scalene triangle can be acute.

D) A right triangle is never isosceles.

E) All obtuse triangles are scalene.

III. Look around around your classroom, or house to find an example of each.

A) scalene triangle

B) right scalene triangle

C) isosceles triangle

D) obtuse isosceles triangle

E) equilateral triangle

F) acute scalene triangle

IIII. Click here to investigate triangles by using Geometer's Sketchpad.
