MATHEMATICAL ELEMENTS OF PRIVATE AIRCRAFT

This site is a brief overview of the basic mathematical elements that are used by private pilots and other aircraft enthusiasts. This presentation is intended towards an audience of high school students, who may be considering careers associated with the private aircraft market. It also will show some of the basic math issues associated with hot air ballooning. This is becoming a hobby of more individuals, as well as a popular method of marketing/advertising.

The elements presented are basic and are related to algebra, geometry and trigonometry. The areas noted will be related to basic aircraft designs (i.e. math associated with the aircraft construction), intrumentation (i.e. how/why of the various key instruments used in flying), navigation (how to get from here to there, and back) and flight checklist (e.g. airplane loading - center of gravity...)
