Lesson Eight: Why do we need trigonometry?

Often times, mathematics is not meaningful to students without talking about it in the context of some sort of "real world" situation. While this is not a "lesson" in the true sense of the word, I provide links to pages that can be used as resources throughout the teaching of a trigonometry unit - not just at the end of it.

Here are some links to pages with information on the uses of trigonometry.

Using Trigonometry to Calculate Distances in Our Galaxy

Surveying the Uses of Trigonometry

Roller Coaster Connections

Measuring the Circumference of the Earth

Measuring the Earth

Surveying

Basic Theories of Surveying

Applications of Trigonometry

NOTE: In my search for trigonometry in the real world, I came across dozens of job postings that required the use of trigonometry!
