A Little Something About DNB

By: Denise Natasha Brewley

I am sitting at an Apple computer in a UGA electronic lab trying to conjure up some wild and interesting things to write about myself.  Unfortunately, I am unimaginatively unsuccessful.  Instead, I have decided to lay out the details as they come to me.  Guyana, South America is my place of birth.  My family and I left when I was three years old and made our way to the United States. We finally settled in Brooklyn, New York where most of them currently reside.

After becoming tired of New York's grit and grind, I left when I was seventeen to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.  I earned a BS in Mathematics in 1995. Shortly thereafter, I attended graduate school at Clark Atlanta University and in 1997 earned a MS in Applied Mathematics. As if I wasn't glutton for more punishment, I returned to Clark Atlanta University in 2001 and completed an MBA in Finance.  My most recent endeavor is the pursuit of the PhD in Mathematics Education at UGA.

I have also had a wide variety of teaching assignments.  I have taught mathematics both on the high school and college level. I taught at The Galloway School , Clark Atlanta University, Georgia State University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College

My interests range from quilting to photography.  I also enjoy cooking, traveling and working out.  Someday, I plan on integrating some of the interests that I have in a mathematics learning center.  The learning center will give me the opportunity to bridge mathematics with relevant real life applications and hopefully this will provide students with a deeper understanding of mathematics.
