Something About Me:

Sharren M. Thomas

I am a first year doctoral student in the department of Mathematics Education.  I received my Bachelor of Science degree at Georgia State University in Mathematics in 1993.  I received my M.ED. in Secondary Mathematics Education at Mercer University in 2003.

I taught secondary mathematics for the Dekalb County School Systems from 1995-2003. I served as Department Chairperson from 1999-2003. I taught an array of disciplines that range from Algebra Tech Prep courses to AP Calculus.  I think working in a public school for eight years was one of the motivating factors that led me to pursue my doctoral studies.

As I study more I realize the benefits of seeking graduate studies in Mathematics Education. I have gained a plethora of information regarding childrenŐs learning of mathematics, teacher beliefs and practices, and the questions of what type mathematics is necessary for mathematics educators.
