Conic Sections

Conic sections are formed when a cone is intersected by a plane.  A parabola is created if a line of the cone is parallel to the plane.  If there is no line of the cone that is parallel to cone, an ellipse is formed.  If the plane is perpendicular to the cone, a circle is formed.  If two lines in the cone are parallel to the plane, a hyperbola is formed.
