Estimation is a math skill
that is often overlooked. It helps students test the accuracy
of results as they arrive at those results. By doing this, they
learn to trust their own judgement and utilize it in more realistic
solutions.
Students use a simple electronic
calculator.
Students enter between 10 -20 numbers in the same column on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The numbers are chosen random and vary according to the ability and skills of the students (all single digit to all 3-digit). They write their prediction of the sum of all the numbers and then enter a formula on the sheet to total all the figures.
***A point system can be established.
Game can be played in grous. Group members award points according
to point system (closeness to actual total).
