LESSON 4

ROTATION

(DYNAMIC)

OBJECTIVES: The students will have a deeper understand of the concept of a dynamic rotation verses a fixed rotation. They will be able to rotate an object dynamically around a fixed center point.

PROCEDURE:

(1) Lecture/discussion

(2) Demonstration (within the lecture)

(3) Individual work on computer

LESSON/CLASSWORK:

I. BRIEF REVIEW OF YESTERDAY'S WORK

A. Rotation around one fixed center point.

B. Rotation around two unique fixed center points.

II. DYNAMIC ROTATION

A. What is dynamic rotation?

B. How does it differ from fixed rotation?

C. What are the defining data?

D. Process

(1) Construct object

(2) Construct angle to be used to indicate number of degrees for rotation

(3) "Mark" the angle using the "Mark" command in the Transform drop-down box

(4) Highlight the object to be rotated

(5) Click the "Rotate" command in the Transform box

E. Results

(1) Notice that the direction of rotation depends upon the order of marking the angle.

(2) Interesting aspect of this rotation is that the angle can be easily rotated verse the fixed rotation of yesterday's lesson (the fixed rotation)

III. WRAP-UP

A. Regroup

B. Discuss results, findings

IV. DISMISS
