Computer Lab
1. Go to http://media and select Georgia Career Information Systems under Other Resources.
2. Go to Occupations and Employment and then to Occupation Sort.
3. This survey will help select a career that best fits your abilities and interests.  Once you have answered the 21 questions, select one career choice that interests  you.  Print a descriptions of the career.
4. Go to http://careers.netscape.com/careers/main.tmpl  (This is under bookmarks then Business and Finance then Career Centers)
5. Go to Job Database and fill your selected career and the area you desire to live.  Print results.
6. Go to Salary Wizard, fill in the appropriate information, and Print results.

You have a career area of interest, a description of that career, a list of available jobs, and an idea of the salary.

Questions.
Answer the following questions.
1. What career did you select?

4. What are some of the drawbacks?
 
 
 

5. What type of education or training is required?
 
 
 

  Name two schools that provide the appropriate training?

 What is the total cost of the training?
 

6. What is the median salary?

7. What is the inter-quartile range (25% -75%)?

8. Do you expect to be in this range on your first job?  Why?
 
 

9. How does the job pay (commission, hourly, piecewise, etc)?
 
 

10. What types of bonuses or benefits are available to this career?
 
 

11. What type of raises and promotions are available in this career field?
 
 

12. Look in a local newspaper to find three listings for your selected career.  Cut out and attach.
 
 

13. What type of qualifications do these jobs require?
 
 
 

14. How many jobs are available in this career field (on the careers website)?  How difficult do you think it would be to find a job in this field?
 
 
 
 

15.  What are the predicted trends for this career field in the next few years?
 
 
 
 
 

Resume
Now it is time to make a resume.  Both of the websites above have instructions on making a resume.  Assume that you have now completed training for your career and looking for your first job.  Your resume should be only one page and typed.  Several examples are provided on the web.
 

Presentation
Prepare a 2 to3 minute presentation on your career.  You should include why you selected this career, pros and cons, required training, and salary.
 
 

Grading Rubric ­ Project Grade
25% Computer Lab ­ follow the instructions and provide the indicated printouts.
25%  Questions ­ most of the answers can be found on the web.
25%  Resume ­ one page
25% Class Presentation ­ 3 to 5 minutes
