Day 7

For the following, use sketchpad to set up an appropriate figure from the given information, label, and then solve. Save to your disk when finished.

1. Find the measure of the angle formed by the secant (which goes through the center of the circle) and a tangent if the smaller intercepted arc measures 30 degrees.

2. Find the measure of the angle formed by the secant (which goes through the center of the circle) and a tangent if the larger intercepted arc measures 130 degrees.

3. Find the measure of the larger arc formed by two secants if the angle formed by the secants is 22 degrees and the smaller arc is 64 degrees.

4. The measure of the angle formed by two tangents to a circle is 60 degrees. Find the measures of the intercepted arcs.

5. One of the congruent sides of an isosceles trapezoid inscribed in a circle intercepts an 80 degree arc. What are the measures of the angles formed by the diagonals of the trapezoid?

6. One of the parallel sides of an isosceles trapezoid inscribed in a circle intercepts an arc of 50 degrees, while the other is a diameter. Find the measures of the angles formed by the trapezoid's diagonals.

This lab is to investigate the measure of the segments formed by intersecting chords.

Investigation:
In Sketchpad, make the following construction.

Use Calculate to fill in the chart:

 CG + GD = __________

 EG + FG = __________

 CG - GD = __________

 EG - FG = __________

 CG * GD = __________

 EG * FG = __________

 CG / GD = __________

 EG / FG = __________

Are any of these calculations equal? If you mve point E do they remain equal. Write a conjecture based on your findings.

Can you prove your coonjecture? (Hint: Construct to create triangles)
