This is an exploration with the equation

where successive graphs explore replacement of the "5" on each side of the equation. First, for the value of 5, we get the following graph.

The equations y = x-2 and y = x-5 will cross the x-axis at -2 and -5, respectively. They will both have slope of 1.

If the product of 2 equations was taken, we would get the same graph with one equation:
