Content Skills:

Vocabulary and Symbols:

Activities:

Student(s) obtain brown bag containing jelly beans, spinner, and paperclip. With jelly bean bag, students will:

1. count jelly beans and label spinner (review in circle graphs).
2. write the probability for drawing each color, then spinning each color. *Is it the same?
3. write the odds for both.
4. write two outcomes that are equally likely to happen.
5. write an outcome and its complement.
6. write an event that is certain to happen.
7. write an event that is impossible.
8. draw and replace 10 jelly beans from the bag and record data.
9. spin spinner 10 times and record data.
10. write one sentence about how the probability compares with the actual and another sentence about how each experiment compares with the other.
11. also answer Did the certain event happen? Did the impossible event happen?
