Using Angle-Side-Angle Construction to Copy a Triangle

by

Sue Meredith

This construction begins, as with SSS and SAS, by copying one side onto a given line. We will then copy each angle at the endpoints of this side, giving us an angle, the included side, and another angle that are congruent.

To see step 1, link to SSS or SAS pages. Link to SAS to see step 2, copying an angle.

Step 3. To copy the second angle, we follow the same process as step 2, but from the other endpoint.

The final step is to construct a line through B' and the intersection of the arcs copied from the original triangle.

In order to clean up the construction, mark the vertx C' at the intersection of the two constructed lines, and remove all arcs and extra points needed to construct.
