Below is a link to my Java Sketch. It can be used to explore the properties of tangents of circles.
Description:
Students can use this applet to explore properties of tangents of circles. On the sketch students will answer question #1which relate to the properties. Then they will answer question #2, which is a type of question asked on standardized tests.
Properties
- Tangents intersect circle at exactly one point.
- At the point of tangency, the angle formed by the radius of the circle and the tangent is a right angle.
- Students can use the Pythagorean theorem to determine if the inscribed angles formed are right angles or not.
