In 1986, as a member of the
undergraduate program, I always thought of myself as "just another teacher
in training". The day I was
honored with an award that carried the name of Joseph Hooten, I realized the
magnitude of the profession I was about to enter.
Teaching is not a job, but a
mission. It is an opportunity to
make a difference in the lives of boys and girls, to be a molder of
dreams. It deserves to be revered as
such. Dr. Hooten would remind you
today to never forget that truth.
Best of luck in all that you do.
