The
Goal of VIGRE: to develop innovative
research programs in which
undergraduates, graduate
students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty work
together.
Director:
Dr.Clint McCrory
Summer Involvement: I was selected to take part during the summer of 2001 to work with a small group of students (below) in an investigation. We worked for 20 hours a week for four weeks. At the end of the research period, we were expected to turn in a report of our investigation and results.
Man In
Charge:
Our group facilitator was Dr.
Malcolm Adams.
Our
Goal: To investigate the N-Body problem through
Maple
VI, a computer program, mathematics, and physics. Ultimately,
we would prioritize animating the few known solutions of this puzzle using
Maple VI.
The
A-Team:
Cathy Pascasassi;
Doug Doblar; Amanda Marston; Justin Johnson; Malcolm Adams; Victoria Baraumidze;
Bree Ettinger; BJ Cooley; Rebecca Parker
Positives
Outcomes of My Involvement:
I developed a greater confidence in my abilities to learn and help others
learn mathematics. I enjoyed working with different students who
had different motivations for studying mathematics. I experienced
a more in depth investigation of the research side of the Math Department.
I left the program so mathematically charged that I became a Math Major
in addition to my Secondary Education Degree.
