Data Sets with GSP

For problems #1-9 below, you are to investigate the problem and report the following:

1. GSP Sketch
2. Data Table
3. Scatter Plot
4. Algebraic Model

1. Area of a Triangle
hold the base constant and vary the height

2. Area of a Triangle
animate the vertex opposite the base along a line parallel to the base
Compare the measure of a base angle to the area of the triangle.

3. Circumference of a Circle
vary the diameter

4. Distance of Orthocenter from base
animate the vertex opposite the base along a line parallel to the base
Compare the measure of a base angle to distance the orthocenter is
from the base.

5. Pulling the Boat
(Presentation Sketch in GSP)
Click on show the problem to read about the relationship
that you are to investigate.

6. Falling Ladder
(Sample Sketch (Investigations) in GSP)
The sketch teels you what to investigate.

7. Parabloa with Tangent
(Sample Sketch (Investigations) in GSP)
Compare the measure slope of tangent line and
the x-coordinate of the point on the parabola
(you'll have to figure out what to construct and measure
that represents the value of the x-coordinate)

8. Shear Pythagorus
(Sample Sketch (Pythagorean Theorem) in GSP)
Calculate the value of c squared and compare that to the sum
of the areas of the three squares constructed on each side.

9. Sine/Cosine Tracer
(Sample Sketch (Trig & Conic Functions) in GSP)
Measure <DAC and compare that to the value of the Sin(<DAC)

10. Famous Fence Problem
You have 100ft of fencing with which to build a fence for your dog.
You will build a rectangular fence using your house for one side.
What is the maximum area you can enclose for your dog to play in?
