A #1 (Due August 26 ~ Monday) 10pts

Read the article Relational Understanding and Instrumental Understanding by R. Skemp. Then in your own words explain these two types of understanding - an example from mathematics would be nice. Follow this with a reaction to one of the following prompts:

Please print your paper (1-2 pages) and bring it to class on Thursdays. All papers should be written in a simple size 12 font (like Times New Roman) and should be double spaced. Thanks - that helps me be able to give you feedback!

A #2 (Due August 26 ~ Monday) 10pts

Go to the Intermath website (http://www.intermath-uga.gatech.edu) and explore. Then go into the Geometry Section and then into Triangles and then to Additional Investigations. You will see a list of problems about Properties of Triangles (http://www.intermath-uga.gatech.edu/topics/geometry/triangle/add.htm).

Please select any other problem (just one) to work on in addition to "Classified Information." Please write-up your investigations of these two problems and turn them into me. Click here to read about a write-up.

A #3 (Due August 30 ~ Friday) 10pts

Read the chapter Resolving the Continuing Dilemmas in School Geometry by Zalman Usikin. For this reaction paper please respond to the following prompts:

A #4 (Extra Credit - can be turned in anytime during the semester) up to 5 pts

Read the chapter Looking at Mathematics and Learning. Then tell me anything that you choose to that you thought about as you read this chapter.

A #5 (Due September 4th ~ Wednesday) 10pts

The following problems can be found in your text (9.1) and are about Points, Lines, and Planes. The problems will be discussed Wednesday in class. I will only check to see that you have attempted each problem. If you can't solve it or have no idea how to start, at least write the problem down - that way you will still get credit.

Page 473 #1,Omit #2!! 3 - 6, 9 (estimate only on #9), 11, 12, 15, 17a &b, and 19 OR 20 (your choice)

I will check only to see that you have attempted each problem... feel free to talk with each other or with me, consult different sources, use the answwers in the back of the text to help you "work backwards," etc... We will discuss this assignment in class as long as needed.

A #6 (Due September 11th ~ Wednesday) 10pts

The following problems can be found in your text (9.2 and 9.3).

Page 482 - 484 #1(odds only), 6, 7, 9

Page 492 - 494 #1, 2, 3ab, 7ab, 12, 14 , 16a

A #7 (Due September 11th ~ Wednesday) 10pts

Read the preK-2 Geometry Standard as well as the preK - 2 Measurement Standard from the NCTM Principles and Standards which can be found online at www.nctm.org Then write a maximum of one page reaction paper.

A #8(Due September 20th~ Friday) 10pts

Complete the Properties of Quadrilaterals worksheet that was handed out in class. Please draw a minimum of two shapes for each type of quadrilateral. Make sure that that are constructed correctly - don't estimate a right angle, use your protractor to draw it.

A #9(Due September 23rd~ Monday) 10pts

Read the Grades 3-5 Geometry Standard as well as the 3-5 Measurement Standard from the NCTM Principles and Standards which can be found online at www.nctm.org Then write a maximum of one page reaction paper.

A #10 (Due September 25th~ Wednesday) 20pts

Construct the following by hand with a striaght edge and compass. Write the steps that you took to the side of your construction.
