"Spaghetti" Polygons

Objective: Students will write equations of lines.

Materials: Several pieces of spaghetti, glue, grid paper.

Directions: Using your spaghetti, form two polygons, each with a different number of sides, on the grid paper. Glue the polygons to the paper. Determine the coordinates of the points of intersection of the sides of the polygons. These points of intersection are called the vertices of the polygon. write the coordinates on the grid paper at the proper location. Determine the equation of the sides of the polygons. Write the equation on the grid paper beside the side of the polygon it represents.

Extensions: Students could also be asked to find the midpoint of each side of the polygons and the length of each side.
