Our lesson on the Golden Ratio has used technology in several different ways. I enjoy this lesson because it is a lesson that can be meaningful to students. It also uses technology in ways that are meaningful. This is not a lesson that uses Excel just because it is a program that the teacher likes, but uses Excel to easily organize data. Also, Fathom is an extremely useful program that makes it easy to analyze data. This data can be looked at in different graphs or can be compared in the same graph. Also, the types of graphs used can be manipulated very easily. Using online surveys is a good way to gather data from many different people very easily. With networking, teachers could gather data from students in other countries!
While writing this lesson, I recognized that it is important to know exactly how technology works before trying to implement it into a lesson or classroom. When there is confusion with technology, students are easily frustrated and become disinterested in the lesson. I hope that students can recognize the usefulness of the technology for this lesson. Also, it is evident that students need to have interesting topics to explore to keep enthusiasm in the classroom.
I enjoyed learning about creating web pages and learning about the different programs that we used in the classroom. I can easily implement these programs into classrooms or for personal use. I hope to use a webpage for my own classroom by keeping current postings of assignments. I think that technology can be used to keep open communication with students and parents and should be implemented with more frequency.
