Unit on Spherical Trigonometry

Day 4 Lesson Plan
Lesson Plan Title:
Assessment on Spherical Trigonometry
Concept / Topic To Teach:
Spherical Geometry/Trigonometry
Standards Addressed:
Assessment Standards for School Mathematics states that, “assessment should reflect the mathematics that students should know and be able to do” (NCTM, 2000, p. 22). Through a variety of types of questions, like essay and single response, students are able to demonstrate the mathematical knowledge they should know and be able to do.
General Goal:
To assess students learning of spherical geometry and trigonometry learned in the unit.
Specific Objectives:
1. Take assessment on spherical geometry and trigonometry.
2. Allow students the opportunity to gain half of the credit they lost for problems correctly reworked.
Required Materials:
Pencils and calculators are needed.
Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):
Give five minutes to study and ask questions.
Step-By-Step Procedures:
1) Clear materials from desk and administer attached test.
Plan For Independent Practice:
Correct any mistakes on the test.
Closure:
N/A
Assessment Based On Objectives:
Formal test.
Adaptations (For Students With Learning Disabilities):
Provide more time for the students with learning disabilities to complete the test according to their IEP.
Extensions (For Gifted Students):
Gifted students are required to elaborate on essay descriptions.
Possible Connections To Other Subjects:
History, Physical Science, Navigation
Comments:
This lesson plan assesses connections between mathematics and other topics such as navigation. By demonstrating their knowledge through the formal assessment, students can reveal their total knowledge structure of spherical trigonometry.
