Construct a polygon of five sides and then subdivide the polygon into three triangles.

Using triangle X Y and Z construct rectangles for each as shown below. Then from each rectangle, construct a square that has equal area to the rectangle.

It will be noted that the area generated from the triangle, rectangle is the same in each case. Note that the area of the polygon is the sum of the areas of the three squares.
