Problem:
Number Concepts-Integers (InterMath)
In a class of 22 students, eight receive an 84,
10 receive a 92, and 2 receive a 96 on the last test. If the class
average was 90, what are possible scores for the other two students?
Solution:
t= test scores
22 * t = 90 (22)
22 * t = 1980
(8*84) + (10*92) + (2*96) + x + y = 1980
1784 + x + y = 1980
x + y = 196
Therefore, the average of the other two students' test
scores must equal 98.
Avg (x + y) = 98
The possibilities for the two students' test scores
are:
100 and 96
99 and 97
98 and 98
