What is an ORTHIC TRIANGLE?
by
Julia Neal
The orthic triangle is formed by connecting
the feet of the three altitudes of the three sides of an original
triangle.
First, an altitude is a perpendicular
segment drawn from the vertex of a triangle to the line containing
the opposite side of the triangle.
The Foot is the point at wich the altitude
meets the line containing the side of the triangle.
Now that we have defined some key terms, let's
take a look at constructing an orthic triangle.
This is our original triangle. Our
first step is to construct the the three altitudes.
Notice the three points where the altitudes
meet the sides of the triangle. These points are the FEET. The
feet form the vertices of the orthic triangle. Now we need to
connect the feet to form the sides of the orthic triangle.
The green triangle is the Orthic Triangle.
