The Algebra of Functions continued

by Amy Benson

The Functions

Now, we will investigate f(x) and g(x) with slopes that are additive inverses.

Let

f(x)= -3x+4 and g(x) = 3x - 6

For h(x) = f(x) + g(x),

h(x) = -2

For h(x) = f(x)*g(x),

For h(x) = f(x)/g(x),

For h(x) = f(g(x)),

h(x)= -9x + 22

The Graphs

f(x), g(x) and h(x) where h(x) is the sum of the other two functions

f(x), g(x) and h(x) where h(x) is the product of the other two functions

f(x), g(x) and h(x) where h(x) is the quotient of the other two functions

f(x), g(x) and h(x) where h(x) is the composite of the other two functions
