OBJECTIVES: The students will be able to "shrink" an object using marked vectors.

PROCEDURE:

(1) Lecture/discussion

(2) Demonstration (within lecture)

I. BRIEF REVIEW OF YESTERDAY'S WORK

A. What is dynamic rotation?

B. How does it differ from fixed rotation?

II. DILATION (SHRINKING)

A. What is dilation?

B. What are the defining data?

(1) Center point

(2) Two vectors

C. Process

(1) Draw object to be dilated

(2) Construct center point

(3) Construct two vectors

(4) "Mark" vectors: first the shorter one, then the longer one, using the "mark vector" in the drop-down box for "Transform"

(5) Mark center point, then highlight all of object to be dilated

(6) Click "Dilate" in drop-down box

D. Results

(1) Have original object

(2) Have smaller version of object

III. WRAP-UP

A. Regroup

B. Discuss results and other findings
