Final Project

Part 3

A. You felt you learned the most mathematics...Why?
I think that I learned the most mathematics by completing the exercise on polar equations. This was a topic that I felt very weak in and completing the exercises helped me feel more confident in this area. Also I learned a lot of mathematics from completing the assignment on tangent circles. I went to several resources for help and had no luck. When I finally found someone to give me the basics, I was able to take it from there and create something useful to all and learn a lot of math myself in the process.

B. You felt most satisfied about...Why?
I am most satisfied with my work on Assignment 12. I think this one is the most useful and it also helped me put some of my own ideas into words for others. I feel like someone else will be able to benefit from my work on this write-up through Excel. My goal throughout was make a web page that I could return to for ideas and remember the processes that I went through in making it. Hopefully these same things are beneficial to students and other teachers alike.

C. You felt show you best (most thorough? most creative? most useful?) effort during the quarter.
I think one of the most useful explorations I completed was Assignment 12 using Excel. I already knew how to use a spreadsheet fairly well, but seeing its applicability to the classroom was great. My write-up was aimed toward teacher's who might be implementing this in their classrooms. It includes some guidelines, some hints, and some questions to pose to the students.

D. You felt that your doing the exploration opened up new elements of mathematics for you...Why?
I think that the exploration on polar equations opened up new elements of mathematics for me. I remembered very little about polar equations from high school. I do not think much emphasis was placed on polar equations. Completing this exploration allowed me to refresh my memory and to find out some new things that I know I would not have done otherwise (unless I had to teach it).
