ARBELOS
S. McAdams, S. Pinion, & L. Stueve
Arbelos, or shoemaker's knife was given its name because of
the shape of the region formed by the three circles. This region closely
resembles the shape of a shoemaker's knife -- Arbelos.
We can construct the region, and using GSP calculate the lengths and
angles to demonstrate the region to be a rectangle.
Now, can you prove it?
The link below was installed into this document by a --- shall we say
--- amateur, in order to actually get to the proof, click below, choose
MATH, then choose 'a', then find ARBELOS -- whew! this requires a good
deal of effor t for the reader, but we think it is worth it.
GOOD LUCK!!
