In order to move the vertex of the graph into the second quadrant, we will have to move the original graph up and to the left. Notice that we replaced x with (x+5) in order to get our horizontal shift to the left 5 units. The value 6 was chosen in order to move the graph 6 units vertically. If we add 6 to both sides of the red equation, we can see that we are effectively adding 6 units to every y-value. It is a little more friendly looking to leave the 6 on the left side of this equation and it makes it easy to identify the vertical translation.
