ADDITION OF LINEAR FUNCTIONS

Here is the algebraic progression of adding these linear functions.

As we found out from our exploration of the general functions on hte first page fo our exploration, we are left with a new linear equation.

 

Here is what it looks like.

So, when adding linear functions, we will always get a linear function whose slope is equivilant to the sum of the slope of f(x) and g(x).

The y-intercept is found the same way.

If you look carefully at the graph, you can see that the new linear equation has a slope of 7 and crosses the y-axis at 5.
