Problem:
Number Concepts-Integers (InterMath)
An estate valued at $62,000 is left by will as follows:
To each of two grandchildren a certain sum, to the
son twice as much as to the two grandchildren together, and to
the widow $2,000 more than to the son and grandchildren together.
How much goes to each?
Solution:
x= amount of money left to each of the 2 Grandchildren
2x= amount of money left to the Son
3x + 2,000 = amount of money left to the Widow
x + 2x+ 3x + 2000 = 62,000
6x + 2,000= 62,000
6x = 60,000
x = 10,000
How much money goes to each?
1st Grandchild = $ 5,000
2nd Grandchild = $5,000
Son = $ 20,000
Widow = $ 32,000
