Activity
1. Over a period of one week, have students gather examples of graph types (i.e. bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs) from newspapers, magazines, or journals. At the end of the week, look at each of the graph examples and decide if they are appropriate or if the statistics would have been presented better with a different type of graph.
2. What type of graph would you use to present the following? Explain your choice.
a. the number of female students in each grade at your school
b. the annual rain fall in you city over the past 10 years
c. the speed of the world's 20 fastest animals
d. the total population of each of the fifty states in the United States
