GSP Lab #3
Constructing Quadrilaterals

For this lab you will complete a total of 6 constructions. Please use the "tab" feature of GSP in order to create just one file with 6 separate sketches. You are to do all 4 constructions in Part A and then select one construction from each set of Part B - for a total of the advanced constructions. You don not need to write any discussion unless there is something you need to tell me about the construction you did. I am checking to see if the figue you constructed matches the given angle(s) and/or segment(s). You need to know 2 very basic constructions (see your notes from the web on constructions). The steps are listed below in case you don't remember or have trouble re-creating the construction using gsp.

How to copy a segment length... click here to download the gsp file and here for an html file

How to copy an angle measure... click here to download the gsp file and here for an html file

Part A: CONSTRUCT EACH OF THE FOLLOWING USING GSP

1. Construct a square for a given segment.

2. Construct a rhombus for a given segment, but not necessarily a square.

3. Construct a rectangle twice the length of a given segment, but not necessarily a square.

4. . Construct a square, a given the length of the diagonal

Part B: CHOOSE 2 OF THESE SLIGHTLY MORE ADVANCED CONSTRUCTION PROBLEMS (one from each category)

A. Construct a rhombus, given

1. one side and one angle
2. one angle and a diagonal
3. the altitude and one diagonal

B. Construct a parallelogram, given

1. one side, one angle, and one diagonal
2. two adjacent sides and an altitude
3. one angle, one side, and the altitude on that side

How to Turn in and Label your Work

You will need to e-mail me your gsp file including your write-up. Please use the document options command on GSP to add blank pages to your file. Label each page (with the text box) by the name of the construction. Name the "tabs" whatever makes sense to you. Thus you will have six tabs at the bottom of your GSP sketch... one for each construction. Again, please label your file as follows...

GSP File: your last name and first initial_gsp3.gsp

For example,  I would e-mail myself (at lsheehy@ngcsu.edu) the following file:

sheehyl_gsp3.gsp

Note!! Please label the Subject exactly as follows: gsp3
