Postulates
- Let it be granted that a straight line may be drawn from any point to any other point.
- That a terminated straight line may be produced to any length in a straight line.
- And that a circle may be described from any center, at any distnce from the center.
Axioms
- Things which are equal to the same thing are equal to one another.
- If equals be added to equals, the wholes are equal.
- If equals be taken away from equals, the remainders are equal.
- If equals be added to unequals, the wholes are unequal.
- If equals be taken away from unequals, the remainders are unequal.
- Things which are doubles of the same thing, are equal to one nother.
- Things which are halves of the same thing, are equal to one another.
- Magnitudes which coincide with one another, that is, which exactly fill the same space, are equal to one another.
- The whole is greater than the part
- All right angles are equal to one another.
- Two straight lines which intersect one another, cannot be both parallel to the same straight line.
