Biographical Information
I received my Bachelor of Science (1986) and Master of Arts (1988) in mathematics
at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. As part of my
student teaching, I completed my field experience with honors.
Since 1988, I have been teaching at Lees-McRae College. As part of my teaching
duties, I taught all levels of undergraduate mathematics. My primary duties
were teaching developmental mathematics and serving as a supervisor of the
academic support services. In 1994, I was named chair of the Division for
Academic Advancement. I helped to implement a summer studies program for
students requiring remedial work. In addition, the division has opened a
technology resource room and are actively seeking funding to expand this
facility.
I actively serve on the following committees: Curriculum and Academic Standards,
Probation and Suspension, Admissions, and served as the co-chair of the
Financial Resources Committee for the colleges reaccreditation. I am currently
on a leave of absence from Lees-McRae College to pursue Ph.D. work in the
Department of Mathematics Education at the University of Georgia. My leave
of absence is being funded by Mr. Gordon Cain.
My interests outside teaching are landscaping, hiking, conservative politics,
the World Champion Atlanta Braves and being with my family.
