The Golden Ratio and Plants

 

When we look at sunflower seeds, we observe that they follow a pattern almost the same as golden spiral. The sunflower seeds placed themselves over head of sunflower along these finite golden spirals. These spirals enable seeds to place themselves efficiently and maximize the number of seeds over the sunflower. (see figure 1&2)

We can see also smilar pattern in pinecones seeds. The pinecones seeds exactly place themselves over the head of the pinecones in a golden spiral pattern. (see figure 2)
