Day 4's Area Problems

Measure and then calculate the area of each large geometric figure provided. For each figure, write a sentence or two explaining how you measured the area.

1. Use your centimeter ruler to approximate the area of figure A.

2. Which quadrilateral has the greater perimeter, kite B or parallelogram C? What is its approximate perimeter in centimeters? Which quadrilateral has the greater area? What is its approximate area in square centimeters?

3. Use your centimeter ruler to approximate the area of figure D.

4. Which figure has the greater perimeter, figure E or figure F? what is its approximate perimeter in centimeters? Which figure has the greatest area? What is it approximate area in square centimeters?

5. Use your centimeter ruler to approximate the area of figure G. Try doing so in the least number of measurements. Can you do so in two measurements?

6. Use your centimeter ruler to approximate the area of figure H.
