A kite is being flown with a lightweight, 100 ft. length of
string. What other measurements might you use to compute an estimate
of the height of the kite? Find four different methods
that might be used with students at different grade levels.
How do you take account of the sag in the string? The direct
line distance from the kite flyer's hand to the kite is less than
100 ft. How much less? in strong wind? in normal, kite flying
wind?
Precision. How precise a measure is needed or reasonable in
such a problem?
