Mystery Number

Problem: What is the mystery number? If I subtract 1/2 of it, then multiply by 3, and then add 2, the end result is 26.

Solution: By setting up an algebraic equation, we can solve for the mystery number (i.e. N).

Now using algebra, we can find the value of N, which will give us our mystery number!

Extensions: Have students become the "math wizard" and come up with their own mystery number. This can be a fun way for students to use algebraic thinking in the mathematics classroom.
