From previous
investigations of functions, we recall that by changing the constants
or the coefficients in the equations the basic form of the graph
will be altered slightly. For example, the basic parabola, can
be shifted left or right, or up or down, or stretched along the
x direction by the sides of the parabola or along the y direction
by the vertex.

Figure 1 gives the basic form of the parabola, but by alterning the equation with coefficients and a constant, notice the graph is still a parabola. It has merely been flipped, shifted, and stretched.
