Homework Assignment Nine

Directions:  This assignment deals will the Pythagorean Theorem.

In this assignment, you will design a spread to determine the third side of a right triangle.  For the second part of the assignment, you will design a spreadsheet that will check to see if three numbers could be the sides of a right triangle.

This assignment has 15 questions and is worth 15 points.

Problems 1-5:  Given 2 sides of a right triangle, find the length of the hypotenuse.

1) a = 3, b = 4, c =

2) a = 5, b = 12, c =

3) a = 15, b = 16, c =

4) a = 6, b = 8, c =

5) a = 13, b = 17, c =

Problems 6-10: Given the hypotenuse and the side of a right triangle, find the missing side of the right triangle.

6) a = 12, c = 20, b =

7) a = 9, c = 20, b =

8) b = 15, c = 17, a =

9) a = 40 , c = 41, b =

10) a = 6, c = 13, b =

Problems 11-15:  Could the following be the sides of a right triangle?

11) 1, 2, 3

12) 3, 4, 5

13) 9, 40, 41,

14) 3, 11, 15
