Bonus Assignment Three

Directions:  This assignment is worth 10 points.  This bonus will require each student to find shapes in their every day life.  The student will then measure the dimensions of the objects and use a spreadsheet to calculate the perimeter and area of each object.  When the assignment is complete.  Save the assignment on your disk as:  Bonus Assignment 3 and turn it in.

Question 1:  Find five objects that are rectangular in shape in your house (remember that a square is also a rectangle).  Measure the length and width of all of these shapes in cm.  Then, create a spreadsheet that meets the following requirements.

1) In cell A1, write the word object centered and in bold.  Then list the name of the object in column A below the word object.

2) In cell B1, write the word length centered and in bold.  Then, list the length of each object in column B.

3) In cell C1, write the word width centered and in bold.  Then, list the width of each object in column C.

4) In cell D1, write the word Perimeter centered and in bold.

5) In cell D2, use the equation P = 2l + 2w to write a formula to find the perimeter of the object in column A.  Then, copy and paste this formula into the correct cells in column D.

6) In cell E1, write the word Area centered and in bold.

7) In cell E2, use the equation A = lw to write a formula to find the are of the object in column A.  Then, copy and paste this formula into the correct cells in column E.

Question 2:  Find five objects that are circular in shape in your house.  Measure the diameter of all of these shapes in cm.  Then, create a spreadsheet that meets the following requirements.

1) In cell A10, write the word object centered and in bold.  Then list the name of the object in column A below the word object.

2) In cell B10, write the word Diameter centered and in bold.  Then, list the length of each object in column B.

3) In cell C10, write the word Radius centered and in bold.  Then, then create a formula to find the radius from the diameter in column B in column C.

4) In cell D10, write the word Circumference centered and in bold.

5) In cell D11, use the equation C = 2pr to write a formula to find the circumference of the object in column A.  Then, copy and paste this formula into the correct cells in column D.

6) In cell E10, write the word Area centered and in bold.

7) In cell E11, use the equation A = pr2 to write a formula to find the area of the object in column A.  Then, copy and paste this formula into the correct cells in column E.

Finally, save the spreadsheet to your disk and turn it in.
